Dear Harvard College Students,

I am pleased to announce the reorganization of the Office of the Secretary of the Administrative Board as the new Office of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct. The new office will begin service July 1, 2015.

Coinciding with the development of Harvard College’s new honor code, the new office will house both the Honor Council and the Administrative Board in a single, unified office. Combining these two bodies reflects Harvard College’s overarching emphasis on honesty and integrity in academic work, in clubs and extracurricular activities, in the houses and dorms, and beyond. The new office will play a central role in driving our cultural commitment to integrity that forms the foundation of the new honor code. Both the Honor Council and Administrative Board will reflect our long-standing commitment to the educational and personal growth of undergraduates, as well as our desire to effectively reach our students and engage with them directly about their actions.

The new office will continue to draw on the expertise of current Administrative Board Office Director and Senior Case Manager Ann Weissman and Case Managers Emily Miller and Jane Collins. Their years of experience in academic administration and Harvard’s House system will provide for consistency and efficiency across the Administrative Board and Honor Council.

As part of the reorganization, I am also pleased to announce the hiring of Lauren Brandt as assistant dean of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct and Brett Flehinger as associate dean of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct.

A graduate of Harvard College (2001), Lauren was a resident tutor in Leverett House before serving for six years as Leverett’s resident dean and as a lecturer in History and Literature. This year she has served as assistant dean of Harvard College and interim associate secretary of the Administrative Board, and with the reorganization of the new office, she will serve as secretary of the Administrative Board.

Over the past two decades, Brett has served as assistant head tutor in History, as a preceptor in the Expository Writing Program, as resident dean of Lowell House, and most recently as assistant dean of Harvard College and associate secretary of the Administrative Board. In his new position, Brett will serve as secretary of the Honor Council.

Lauren and Brett look forward to working with the community and will be available to talk about the development of the Office of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct on Wednesday, February 18, at 4 p.m., in the Janulis Common Room in Leverett House.
