Bright Sediment: An Exhibition by Geoff Booras

“Bright sediment” – two words found in an essay, “The Method of Nature,” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. As a lover of nature in the truest sense, Geoff Booras takes Emerson’s words to the heart. Both are reconciling their own relationship with nature, albeit in very different ways. Yet Emerson’s conclusion that nature is a creation of the human mind is strange. And why should it be secondary? Is this the type of viewpoint that has ushered us into the shifting sands of our Anthropocene? For artist Geoff Booras the “bright sediment” is the key; it is the physical crystallization of man’s solution of nature – as idea and as material – just as his sculptures intend to be.
