Although I traveled to the U.S. multiple times before, I never needed more than one suitcase to get here, but this time it was a little different...

2 suitcases, 1 carry-on, 2 storage bins, 1 backpack, 1 bed-set,  and 3 random bags I am still not entirely sure how I ended up getting. 3 airplanes, 5,504 miles, 10-hour car ride and a couple dozen sad goodbyes and I found myself standing in front of my dorm thinking to myself, “Oops, I forgot my bath towel… in Palestine.” The towel may not have been a real problem, but the fact that I moved my entire life across the Atlantic took more than a week or two to digest, but the real surprise: I loved it!

Move in day was truly a blast, getting adjusted to the Boston August heat, meeting the best roommates Harvard has ever come across, making friends from day 1 and somehow organizing everything from the suitcases to the random bags and everything in between. I vividly remember my proctor sitting outside out entryway with donut holes helping everyone move in, meeting my PAFs (Peer Advising Fellows) later that day, and all the wonderful fellow freshman.

Regardless of how far away you are coming from, the difficulties attached with moving your life, physically or emotionally, I can tell you that it is all worth the trouble when you find new home as a result of that transition.

I have definitely found a family here and I look forward to spending the next four years with them.

Oh and about that towel, I made an incredible new friend, Ariana, who walked with me to the closest store and we bought a bath towel that day, so don’t worry if that toothbrush is waiting for you on the sink back home or your suitcase got lost, everything will work itself out and you’ll find your Ariana during that first week or later in the year.

I look forward to welcoming the Class of 2023 next year and I hope they have a memorable move-in experience.
