Meet Laura Veira-Ramirez

Hi everyone! My name is Laura Veira-Ramirez, and I am a sophomore at the College living in Leverett House. I was born in Bogota, Colombia, but my family immigrated to the United States when I was three years old. I spent the next 15 years of my life in Norwalk, Connecticut before coming to Harvard. As a first-generation student, I was never sure if I’d be able to go to college, let alone a school like Harvard. On campus, I am involved in several organizations. I am Advocacy Co-Chair for Act on a Dream, the group on campus focused on fighting for the rights of undocumented students and students from mixed-status families. I also serve on the Editorial Board for The Harvard Crimson (check out some of my pieces on their website!). I am excited to be working as a Harvard First Generation Program Student Coordinator because it gives me the opportunity to talk to students who, just like me, may not have thought that there was a place for them at Harvard. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about Harvard and my experiences as a first-generation student!
