Dear Harvard College Students,

I am excited to announce the launch of the new Harvard College Certificate for Civic Engagement. Harvard College's mission is to educate the citizens and citizen leaders of our society. While many of you engage in community service as part of your Harvard experience, the new Certificate provides an opportunity for you to integrate what you learn through course work with what you learn through direct service and advocacy and to reflect on how these experiences will guide your actions as engaged citizens. We are pleased to offer this new learning opportunity and way to recognize students who are committed to developing knowledge, skills, and experience that support effective civic engagement.

Students in the class of 2025 and beyond will be eligible to complete the coursework, practicum, and capstone elements of the Certificate. You can read more on the OUE website about the opportunity, its requirements, and how to start your journey in public service.

If you are interested in learning more about this new program, I invite you to attend an information session at the Phillips Brooks Center for Public Service and Engaged Scholarship on March 20 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM in the Parlor. As a reminder, registration for Fall 2024 starts on April 3, so I encourage you to consider this new opportunity as you plan for the next academic year.

I hope the gentle pause of Spring Break gives you a chance to recharge and refresh, and together we’ll return ready to embrace the season’s spirit of rebirth and growth.

Semper Veritas,

Rakesh Khurana
Danoff Dean of Harvard College
