Guidelines for Receiving and Maintaining Aid

We maintain a robust financial aid program that makes a Harvard education affordable for every admitted student. Please review our policies and deadlines to ensure you remain in good standing.

We are happy to help with any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact your financial aid officer, or call us at 617-495-1581.

Requesting a reconsideration

If you have new information about your family’s financial circumstances, or feel we have overlooked some key aspect, you may request a reconsideration of your award through our appeals process.

Taking a leave of absence

Taking time away from Harvard—a semester, a year, or more—may impact your financial awards or loan repayment. Before you make a decision, review our policies on leaves of absence.

Reporting funds from outside sources

When you receive scholarship funds from sources outside Harvard, they must be reported to us so we can incorporate them into your financial aid package. Learn more about our policies on outside awards.

Current Student Tip

Check out the new Shoestring Strategies Guide! The Harvard Financial Aid Initiative has just launched a handy mobile app with tips for living on a budget at Harvard College. It is produced entirely by Harvard students, for fellow students. Find the App at the Apple App Store or Android Marketplace (search “Harvard Shoestring”), or online.
