College is definitely an amazing experience, but it comes with its ups and downs. I’m a big believer in taking care of your mental health, especially as a college student. 

Coming to Harvard, in a whole new country and far from home, I had to figure out how to deal with being away from my family most of the time (thanks, time zones), all while juggling classes and trying to build a social life. So, I set out on a little mission to find things that could help me unwind and feel more grounded. Here are some of my favorite self-care activities  that really helped me recharge.

If you’re someone who vibes with nature, Cambridge is about to become your happy place. Think tree-lined streets, peaceful walking paths, and parks that feel like little pockets of calm in the middle of everything. Beautiful area to have a picnic, or just read your book. In the spring, flowers burst into color like a living painting, especially the daffodils outside most homes and buildings in the area. Summer brings out that deep green that makes everything feel alive, it might get really hot but nothing a fan and sunscreen can’t fix. And fall? Is honestly my favorite season and it is just pure magic, warm tones, crisp air, and that golden-hour glow everywhere. The Cambridge area is just rich in beauty throughout the year. 

A simple walk around Cambridge can seriously lift your mood. If you're a fan of biking, exploring Cambridge on two wheels is a must. Even better, Bluebikes, the city's bike-sharing system, make it super easy to hop on and go. One of my favorite routes is along the bike lane on Massachusetts Avenue. It takes you from Harvard through MIT, across the Charles River, and right into downtown Boston. It’s not just a scenic and efficient way to get around, it's also a great way to unwind and clear your mind.

If you need a break from the academic grind or just want a change of scenery, the MBTA and Commuter Rail make it easy. On weekends and holidays, they offer great train pass deals that let you explore New England without breaking the bank. One time, I spent just $10 getting from Boston to Rhode Island and back, literally just because I could. And that is just one example of how much you could do. So if, like me, you appreciate a good bargain, there's no reason to feel stuck. Plenty of affordable adventures are waiting.

If you're not big on constantly moving around, Harvard has some great spots with rooftop access and incredible views. There was a time when I felt really overwhelmed and just needed a place to unwind, focus, and do my own thing. That’s when I found the fourth floor of Two Arrow Street, it’s close by and has amazing rooftop decks with chairs and tables, open to Harvard students. It’s easily my go-to spot. Most weekend afternoons, you’ll find me up there, soaking in the views while getting work done.
