Abbeny
Category UMRPBiography
Hi! My name is Abbeny, and I’m a senior in Winthrop House studying History & Literature and Sociology. Originally, I’m from a border community in South Texas, the Rio Grande Valley. On campus, I have been involved heavily with the Latine community, currently serving as Co-chair of Concilio Latino, formerly the President of Latinas Unidas de Harvard College, and on board for the Harvard Latina Empowerment and Development Conference. Since my first year, I have also immersed myself in public service at the Phillips Brooks House Association, a social justice non-profit that provides various services to communities in Cambridge and Boston. Now I’m continuing my work by serving as an Intern with the Center for Public Service and Engaged Scholarship and being a part of the FYRE pre-orientation program, dedicated towards welcoming incoming first-generation, low-income students to Harvard.
In my free time, I enjoy going to art museums, finding new music, digitally doodling, and visiting new cafes! I’m happy to share more about my time at Harvard and the communities I have been a part of. Additionally, as a first-generation college student, navigating the college application process was difficult but also one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. I’m happy to talk more about the college application process!
