Housing Day Spirit Week 2026
In 2026, Harvard College’s Housing Day tradition expanded to an entire week of Housing Day programming, building upon community, connection, and House pride.
Housing Day stands as a defining and distinctive moment for students during their time at Harvard College. During this cherished annual event, first-year students find out which of the 12 Houses they will call home for the remainder of their time at Harvard. For upper-level students, it’s a moment of pride and leadership, as they welcome first-years and show them the spirit and traditions of the House they have grown to love, while first-years are eager to belong to a new community they will form a lifelong bond with through Commencement and beyond.
This year, Housing Day Spirit Week reimagines and elevates an already time-honored tradition by placing an even stronger emphasis on celebration, connection, and House pride. The College’s expanded programming includes reflective time capsules, giveaways, food trucks, swag, a red carpet, and more—creating an uplifting and highly visible experience that celebrates both new beginnings and the traditions that make Housing Day so meaningful.
The official Housing Lottery letter told first-years which House they were placed in.
Capturing a Moment in Time
The Housing Day First-Year Enhanced Brain Break created a meaningful moment for first-year students to honor their dorm communities before transitioning into their new House identities. Through a dorm-specific time capsule activity, students had the opportunity to reflect on the relationships, memories, and growth of their first year while building excitement for the next chapter that awaited them on Housing Day.

T’was the Night Before Housing Day
Housing Day Eve was filled with food and fun, from the Yard to the Quad. This high-energy, community-focused celebration brought students together on the night before Housing Day with music and House-themed giveaways. The event helped build anticipation, foster connection, and offered a fun environment for students as they counted down the hours together. The event featured samples of Dunkin’ favorites, alongside Roxy's Grilled Cheese & Tater Tots, Moyzilla Dumplings, chicken tenders at Dean Deming’s home, and the Harvard-famous Pinocchio’s Pizza at Dean Dunne’s home.

Housing Day, March 27, 2026
In keeping with Kirkland House’s new tradition, students stake their claim at the John Harvard statue overnight to secure a prime spot for the following morning’s festivities. By 8AM, the Yard was abuzz with each House community dressed in their House swag and accompanied by their House mascots, flags, and signs. First-year students nervously awaited the sound of their new House members inching closer to their doors to announce the news. After being dorm-stormed, first-years enjoyed a special Housing Day lunch in Annenberg filled with joy, cheers, and photo opportunities with their new House mascots. Their day culminated with collecting their newly-assigned House’s swag and attending their community celebrations.
