Hello! My name is Allison Scharmann and I’m a junior from Western Massachusetts living in Winthrop House. I’m concentrating in Social Studies with a secondary in English and I spend most of my free time on campus working for our newspaper, The Harvard Crimson. As the Music Editor and Training Director for the Arts section I’m responsible for organizing all music coverage, editing and publishing pieces, and training new writers. I’ve also been able to write about arts-related events in and around campus, which included covering the Boston Calling Music Festival two years in a row. While my hometown isn’t too far from Cambridge, my high school had never sent a student to Harvard before me. As a first-gen college student, my parents encouraged me to go to college but didn’t quite know how to help me get there. I’m passionate about making the college admissions process easier to navigate, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you have about the application process, being a first-generation college student, or Harvard in general!
