Hi everyone! My name is James (王冀予), and I’m a sophomore in Mather House. I’m a Chinese-Nigerian Eagle Scout from Maryland, who earned all 139 merit badges. At Harvard, I’m one of the first students to concentrate (our word for major) in Energy, Climate, and the Environment, and I hope to become an environmental justice lawyer. I came to climate through childhood asthma. Outside of class, I sit on the Standing Committee on Undergraduate Educational Policy, direct alumni relations and professional development for the Harvard Undergraduate Association for U.S. Cross-Cultural Relations, consult on sustainability projects with Harvard Undergraduate Consulting on Business and the Environment, and play cello with the Brattle Street Chamber Players. I became a Recruitment Ambassador because I’m a first-gen student who worked through financial aid largely on my own, and I want families to see how far aid can go. Ask me about financial aid, the new concentration, making music without majoring in it, speed skating along the Charles, or cooking a Lunar New Year dinner in a dorm kitchen!
