Biography

Hi everyone! My name is NanaYaa, and I’m a junior concentrating in Sociology on the Data Analytics track, with a secondary in African Studies. I was born in Ghana and raised in rural South Dakota. As the first in my family to pursue an undergraduate degree in the U.S., I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating the college application process and I am passionate about supporting first-generation, low-income (FGLI) students and those from rural backgrounds as they go through the process. On campus, I’ve been involved in communities that uplift FGLI students such as the Harvard Foundation and FYRE, the pre-orientation program. I’m also pre-law and engaged in the business space, so I’m always happy to chat about those interests as well. Outside of academics, I love singing, especially gospel music, as well as watching movies with friends, and exploring new restaurants (and testing my spice tolerance)! Please feel free to reach out with any questions, I’d be glad to talk about the college application process, student life at Harvard, or what it’s like coming from a FGLI, immigrant, or rural background. I’m excited to connect!
