Category HFGPBiography
Hi everyone!! My name is Rafid Quayum, and I am a senior living in Currier House (quad pro quo!!!), concentrating in a joint study of Astrophysics & Physics with a language citation in Spanish. My sister and I were born and raised in Montclair, NJ, but my parents immigrated to the United States from Sylhet, Bangladesh. On campus, I am involved in Martian habitability engineering research, the Harvard Undergraduate Astronomy Society, and the First-Year Outdoor Program! Outside of class, I also love to go on runs, explore Boston with friends, and visit the Cambridge Public Library. When I was applying to colleges, I didn’t realize I was a first-generation college student until after I committed to Harvard and received my first email from the Harvard First Generation Program (HFGP)! Especially being both a first-generation American and a first-generation college student, I understand how difficult it can be to navigate the college admissions process. Now, as an HFGP student coordinator, I hope to offer the support and resources that I did not have during the college application process. I can answer any questions that you have about first-gen and low-income (FGLI) student life at Harvard or about applying to colleges! Please feel free to reach out!
