Dear Harvard College Students,

Today I share some news regarding the Bureau of Study Counsel (BSC). Dr. Abigail Lipson, who has led the BSC for 13 years, in addition to her 28 years of service to Harvard College, is retiring, effective September 14, 2018. Abigail shared this news with her colleagues yesterday in her note below. As students, I wanted to ensure you were aware of this transition.

As its director since 2005, Abigail has been central to the BSC mission of promoting students’ capacities for meaningful and effective engagement with academic life and learning. In addition to her academic counseling work with the BSC, Abigail has also served as the co-coordinator for the Success-Failure Project and the Resilience Consortium and she also served as the BSC liaison to Adams House. I want to thank Dr. Lipson for all her efforts in supporting you, our students. We are deeply grateful to her and the entire BSC staff.

In the interim, Sindhumathi Revuluri, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education will serve as Interim-Director of the BSC. In her current role, Dr. Revuluri oversees the Bureau of Study Counsel and the Accessible Education Office - working to align and coordinate our support services and to ensure that academic support is accessible to all students. In this interim period, she will continue to forward the work of the BSC, specifically the Bureau’s goal of promoting students’ capacities for meaningful and effective engagement with academic life and learning. I am grateful to her for taking on this role and look forward to her engagement with the Bureau.

Warmly,

Dean Rakesh Khurana
Danoff Dean of Harvard College
