Dear Harvard College Students,

I write today to announce Amanda Claybaugh, Samuel Zemurray, Jr. and Doris Zemurray Stone Radcliffe Professor of English, as the next Dean of Undergraduate Education (DUE) at Harvard College, effective July 1, 2018.

During her time at Harvard, Professor Claybaugh has been deeply committed to advancing Harvard’s liberal arts and sciences education. An innovative teacher of “Humanities 10,” among other courses, she has worked to create a rigorous educational experience for students. A superb teacher and mentor, Professor Claybaugh has been recognized with both the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize and the Everett Mendelsohn Excellence in Mentoring Award. As chair of the Committee on Degrees in History and Literature, she led the development of the Ethnic Studies track and has worked to create greater diversity in the teaching faculty.

Professor Claybaugh cares deeply about your academic experience, is attuned to the changing nature of our student body, and I know that she will serve all of you very well as our next Dean of Undergraduate Education. Among her strengths, Professor Claybaugh is someone who listens deeply and works collaboratively to come up with creative solutions.

Please join me in congratulating Professor Claybaugh.

Warmly,
Dean Khurana
Danoff Dean of Harvard College
