Biography

Hi! My name is Melissa, and I am a sophomore living in Mather House, concentrating in Psychology with a language citation in Spanish. I was born and raised in Queens, NY, but my family is from Guatemala and Mexico. I’m passionate about building community and supporting others, especially as a mentor for immigrant and refugee youth within the greater area of Boston and as a student leader for Latinas Unidas de Harvard College and Concilio Latino. As a first-generation and low-income student, I have had the pleasure of becoming a part of so many wonderful spaces that have helped shape my identity and experience inside and outside of campus. Serving as a coordinator for the Harvard First Generation Program (HFGP), I hope to continue fostering a support system to students from similar backgrounds who are new to the college application process. Speaking from experience, the college application process can be intimidating at times, but we are here to help you every step of the way. Please reach out if you have any questions – I’m happy to chat, whether it’s about applications or just navigating college life. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
