Traveling to China had always been on my bucket list. So, as I traveled from Hong Kong to Yinchuan and then, Beijing, I was constantly in awe by each flavor, tradition, and conversation I came across!
Collaborating with the Harvard College China Forum, I had the honor of being welcomed by The China-United States Exchange Foundation for a "ten-day cultural exchange program across China" with other Harvard students. Starting off in Hong Kong, we visited the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks and met with representatives from the South China Morning Post, HSBC, and the American Chamber of Commerce. Learning about global businesses, media, and financial systems, I found myself immersed in new fields and gaining so much new knowledge! Outside of that, I also spent some time taking in Hong Kong's beautiful skyline, exploring night markets, enjoying delicious food, and wandering through vibrant streets that were truly incredible.
Over the next few days, my group and I headed to Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Province in northwest China. There, I was able to learn about China's sustainability and environmental efforts through visiting the Shapotou Nature Reserve and tour the Yuanshi Vineyard in Ningxia. I was also able to try sand sledding for the first time, participate in a paper cutting class, and learn more about Ningxia's goji berry industry!
Approaching the end of our trip, we headed off to Beijing, the capital of China. There, I visited many of China's iconic cultural landmarks including the Great Wall of China (one of the wonders of the world) and the Palace Museum. Everything was absolutely incredible!
After experiencing a chilly summer in Chile, I couldn't help but enjoy China's summer heat (and beauty). And while this past season was filed with lots of excitement and adventure, I'm very grateful to have ended my break on such a fantastic note!
