As junior year comes to a close, I wanted to take you through some of my favorite moments of junior year in every season!

Events! (Fall)

Participating in best dressed of the night tradtion

Although I haven’t gone to as many events run by our variety of student organizations, the few that I have attended have been so fun. One of my favorites was the Harvard African Student Association’s (HASA) Fall Feast during the first semester. The event had  amazing student performances and a delicious array of Jollof rice, puff, and more. There was even a best dressed competition as everyone wore cultural wear! Being Senegalese American, HASA events always feel like a home away from home

Family (Winter)

I spent part of my winter break at home, trying to soak in as much time with my family as possible! While away for school I feel like I’ve missed so many baby showers so here I am catching up with my not so little baby cousin! Throughout these upperclassmen years, planning out intentional time with family has been really grounding for me and boosts me before every semester!

Travels (felt like summer)

While going on religious pilgrimage over winter break I got the chance to visit Egypt for the first time! The summer air, beaches, and vibrant kiosks were definitely a huge highlight of my year! There were so many stray cats that I wanted to take with me!

Mentorship (Spring!)

Throughout this year I have gotten the pleasure of mentoring high school students through the Harvard Radcliffe Emerging Leaders Program. In the program, local high school sophomores are paired with a Harvard college student to support them in community leadership projects and more avenues for civic engagement. This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I have had in college! Mentorship has been incredibly important to me in giving back to local students. It forces a deeper reflection; in order for me to have made it this far, someone had to believe and see the unique potential in me. It has been such a pleasure and honor to do the same for such amazing students!

House Community (All year long!!)

What can I say? Kirkland House really is the best Harvard house! Honestly, I don’t know how I would have gone through junior year without the support of the Kirkland House community. From getting to know our compassionate pre-career tutors to some wonderful house dinners, our Kirkland tradition of warmth and openness always shines. Even when we were snowed in through February, students went out at night to make a giant snowman in the Kirkland courtyard– one of my favorite memories from this year.

While it has been a tumultuous year, this year has certainly been one of growth, delving deeper into my academic interests, and actually becoming a not so young adult. Here’s to an even more exciting senior year (but seriously, I don’t know how it could top this?!)
