One great thing about Harvard is the endless food options in the area: ice cream, boba, Indian food, Mexican food, Italian food, and more! I’ll highlight a few food places in Harvard Square that I think are underrated.
Life Alive offers a variety of filling options, such as seasonal salads, acai bowls, and smoothies. While I’m not the biggest fan of their soup, I’m eager to try their warm grain bowls next. The café also has plenty of seating, Wi-Fi, and outlets, making it a great spot for catching up or studying with friends.
When I’m hungry and on a budget, pizza is usually my go-to, but it’s not exactly something I want to eat every day. Enter Dig—a healthier and more filling option that offers bowls for around $10 (with their student discount). Their servings are generous, and you can customize your bowl with items like mac and cheese, salads, avocado, roasted broccoli, sweet potatoes, and more. It’s a reliable spot for a nutritious meal without breaking the bank.
L.A. Burdick
I never considered buying hot chocolate when I could make it at home with packets, but L.A. Burdick changed my mind. Walking in feels like stepping into a holiday movie, with its cozy atmosphere and rich, decadent hot chocolate. It’s the perfect spot to catch up with friends on a chilly winter night.
Although not underrated, Van Leeuwen is a relatively new ice cream spot in the area with unique and delicious flavors. Options like strawberry matcha, marionberry cheesecake, and Earl Grey tea set it apart. I tried the honeycomb ice cream, and it was fantastic. I’ll definitely be returning to explore more of their creative flavors.
Harvard Square’s food scene offers something for everyone, from comforting hot chocolate to vibrant grain bowls and decadent desserts. Whether you’re a student on a budget or just looking for a fun place to hang out with friends, these spots are worth checking out.
