Harvard University's Fuerza Latina brings a vibrant splash of Latin American culture to the campus each year with its event, "Ritmo Latino." Held during Latine/x Heritage Month, this celebration is a testament to the rich tapestry of traditions, music, and dance from across Latin America.

The inspiration for Ritmo Latino stemmed from Alejandra Beltran, the co-president of Harvard Fuerza Latina. Growing up, Beltran was an active participant in a similar cultural event hosted annually by her local church. This experience ignited her passion for showcasing the diversity and richness of Latin American cultures. Determined to replicate this celebration in a larger academic setting, Beltran and her team conceptualized Ritmo Latino.

Ritmo Latino is not just an event; it's a cultural journey through Latin America. The night is filled with performances that include traditional and contemporary dances from various countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and more. Each performance is a story in motion, narrated through the rhythm and elegance of dance, song, poetry, and film. Live music is a cornerstone of Ritmo Latino. Individual student performers and bands such as Harvard’s Mariachi Veritas come from different parts of Latin America and bring an array of sounds—from the soothing melodies of guitar to the lively sound of the trumpet. These performances create an auditory feast that complements the visual spectacle of the dances.

No celebration of culture is complete without food, and Ritmo Latino excels in this aspect. The event features food from every country in Latin America. It was hard not being tempted to grab a sample from every table!

Aside from entertainment, Ritmo Latino serves an educational purpose. Through exhibits and info sheets on the tables, the event educates attendees about the history and politics pertinent to various Latin American countries. These info sheets provide a deeper understanding of the regions represented.

Ritmo Latino goes beyond the confines of Harvard, impacting the wider community. The event not only brings together students from diverse backgrounds but also attracts members of the local community. It's a space where people from different walks of life can celebrate and appreciate the richness of Latin American cultures together. Ritmo Latino is more than just a night of celebration; it's a bridge that connects cultures and people. Under Harvard Fuerza Latina, the event has grown into a significant cultural landmark, deeply resonating with the values of diversity, inclusivity, and cultural appreciation. As it continues to evolve, Ritmo Latino promises to remain a beacon of cultural celebration at Harvard University.
